JUREK MAKES RUNNING USA'S TOP 10 MOMENTS OF 2006 An ultrarunner has made Running USA's list of the "Top 10 Moments for U.S. Distance Running in 2006." American Scott Jurek's September win in the Spartathlon, the 245km race from Athens to Sparta in Greece, has been ranked #8 on the list for 2006. In winning that race decisively over world #1-ranked Ryoichi Sekiya of Japan, Jurek vaulted himself to #2 (behind only the legendary Yiannis Kouros) on the all-time Spartathlon list. Rarely does an ultra athlete or performance make Running USA's annual top 10 list, which covers all of American distance running (Track, Cross-Country, Road, Trail) from 2 miles on up. Kelly, it seems to me that your definition of world-class is different than everyone else. The dictionary defines world-class as: being of the highest caliber in the world. I believe Scott proved that he is indeed world-class at Spartathlon, competing against some of the best runners in the world. Not only did he win, but his finishing time was within an hour of Yiannis Kouros' time the first year he ran Spartathlon. No one else has ever come that close in the history of the race. And you have the nerve to say that Scott "is the slowest runner I have ever seen."? The reason Scott didn't run in college was because his sport back then was nordic skiing. He only discovered he had talent as a runner after college, I believe. He actually did not enjoy running back then. So, is that reason enough to disqualify him from ever being classified as world-class? There's no mention of having to have run in college in the definition. But I would bet that Scott couldn't care less about such adjectives and from what I can tell, he's all about testing himself, learning about himself and being the best that he can possibly be. Sure, you're entitled to your opinion, but let me ask you...have you ever run internationally and kicked everyone's ass? Because if the answer is no, then you're "college-class", at best.

Actually, I'm a girl. I ran track and cross-country in high school and college and I was very successful. I do not respect Scott Jurek as a runner because he did not run in college like I did. I'm more "world class" then he is because I'm talented enough to have run at the college level and succeed. The reason Scott did not run in college is because he is not fast enough. He does not have the talent to run at the college level. He is the slowest runner I have ever seen. All he does is long slow distance. Just a reminder: I'm entitled to my personal opinion just like you are entitled to yours!

I came on here to see the new calendar and couldn't help myself..I got lost in all the great new pics you put up! I also would like to see the guy who made the idiotic comment about Scott come to Orcas Island and survive the Jurek Camp! Myabe then he would be worthy enough to express an valid opinion. Thanks for posting the pics...as always they really captured the moments with such beauty and grace!

To the idiot who posted below me. You can be a phenomenal world-class athlete without collegiate competition! If you're good, you're good - with college experience or not.
